Homemade Granola, delicious and easy to make

This granola recipe is easy to make and so tasty! What’s great about it is that you can customize the ingredients to your liking; add any seeds or nuts that you prefer. We love cinnamon so I added a good amount of ground cinnamon to ours. I also added some walnuts, almond, and hazelnuts for some extra nutrients, flavor and crunch. All 3 of these nuts help provide their own nutritional benefits making this granola a healthy recipe to snack on.

Note: nuts and seeds are considered a choking hazard for children under the age of 5.

This granola is great to add to yogurt and enjoy it with some fruit or in parfait form.

Served here with whole milk greek yogurt, homemade granola, dried cherries and dried cranberries (my daughter picked out her toppings).

I placed the nuts in a food processor and pulsed them until they were broken down. Pretty much I got them to the size I felt comfortable serving to my toddler. Nuts contain great nutrients so I want to make sure he can still benefit from them but in a safe way.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups old fashioned oats, or rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (coarse chopped or ground )
  • 1/4 cup hazelnuts (coarse chopped or ground) OR in place of the hazelnuts, can use 2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds.
  • 1/4 cup almonds (coarse chopped or ground)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, I used ground ceylon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, optional
  • 1/2 cup avocado oil
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. To a food processor, add the walnuts, hazelnuts and almond. Pulse until they’re broken down and safe to serve. Note: in place of the hazelnuts, can use 2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds.
  3. To a bowl add the oats, pulsed nuts, salt (if using), and ground cinnamon. Mix.
  4. To a separate bowl, add the oil and syrup. Mix to combine. Add the oil/syrup mixture to the oats mixture. Mix to combine.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a baking sheet lined with unbleached parchment paper. Spread the mixture so it’s in a flat and even layer.
  6. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until it’s golden brown and crispy, while carefully mixing every 10 minutes. Note: every 10 minutes, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and give the granola a mix. Make sure to distribute the mixture out into an even flat layer after every mix. Place it back in the oven to continue toasting/baking.
  7. Let it cool and enjoy
