Chia seeds are very nutritious! These tiny but mighty seeds help provide omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), fiber, minerals (such as iron and calcium) and antioxidants.
It is suggested that they be soaked for an hour or two or preferably overnight before consuming to help make them easier to digest. Once soaked, the chia seeds have a gelatinous-like texture.
Please Note: when preparing overnight chia pudding or other recipes that call for dry chia seeds to be soaked overnight, this additional process is not required. During that time, the dry chia seeds are soaked in liquid with other ingredients. However, when a recipe calls for dry chia seeds to be added to muffins, smoothies, or other ingredients, then it is suggested the chia seeds be soaked before adding.

To a small glass food storage container (or bowl), add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and 1/4 cup of filtered water.
Stir with a fork and allow it to sit to soak, while stirring it a few times for the first 20 minutes. Set it aside to continue soaking.
For best results, the chia seeds should be soaked for about 1-2 hours or preferably overnight. If soaking overnight, cover the container with its lid and allow it to soak overnight in the refrigerator. When ready, the chia seeds should have a gelatinous-like texture. The soaked chia seeds can be used once ready or kept in the refrigerator until ready to use.
