With only 4-ingredients, this Blueberry Chia Jam recipe is easy to make and nutritious. It is also one of our favorite recipes. My kids especially love this recipe! Every-time I make it, I do not have any leftovers; it is instantly gone!
To be on the safe side, I like to soak my chia seeds before using them. I have read that soaking chia seeds before consuming helps your body absorb its nutrients and it is easier for your stomach to digest it. Here is how to soak the chia seeds.
I like to serve this recipe with pancakes, waffles, (overnight) chia pudding, dutch baby pancakes, parfaits, nice cream or over toast with some nut or seed butter- just to name a few.
This recipe is quick and easy to make; it’s ready in less than 10 minutes!
Soaking the chia seeds is what takes the most amount of time. I like to soak mine overnight, so that way, I have it ready to use.
Short Video Tutorial:
List of Ingredients:
Blueberries, pure maple syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and soaked chia seeds.
Note: you may prepare the chia seeds the night before. This will allow the chia seeds to soak overnight and will be ready to use. Or, may prepare it an hour or 2 in advance.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Add the blueberries and lemon juice to a saucepan, mix, and cook uncovered (over medium heat) for 5 minutes.
Stir frequently while mashing the berries with the back of your cooking utensil.
After 5 minutes, add the maple syrup and the soaked chia seeds.
Mix to combine and cook (stirring frequently) for an additional 3 minutes or until thickened (decrease the heat a bit, if needed). Taste and add more sweetness, if desired.
Transfer to a glass heat-proof bowl (or container) and set it aside to thicken and cool. Once cooled, use immediately or cover it with its lid and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to use. I like to keep mine for 3-5 days.

How to Soak the Chia Seeds:
- To a small glass food storage container (or bowl), add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and 1/4 cup of filtered water.
- Stir with a fork and allow it to sit to soak, while stirring it a few times for the first 20 minutes. Set it aside to continue soaking.
- For best results, the chia seeds should be soaked for about 1-2 hours or preferably overnight. If soaking overnight, cover the container with its lid and allow it to soak overnight in the refrigerator. When ready, the chia seeds should have a gelatinous-like texture.

Notes
- I have found the jam tastes delicious when the blueberries taste sweet and are full of flavor. If your blueberries are tart, the recipe might require additional maple syrup. May taste the jam once it has cooked and cooled, then add more maple syrup if desired.
- Storage: Keep it in an airtight glass food container in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days.
