Spooky Spinach Spiders
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed spinach
- 1/4 cup no salt added organic creamy peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 large dates soaked in hot water for 5 minutes
- 2 tablespoons of the liquid from the dates
Add oats to food processor and blend until it’s broken down. Add the spinach blend until it’s broken down. Add the flaxseed and pulse a couple times to mix it in. Add the peanut butter or any kind of nut or seed butter, the flaxseed meal, the maple syrup, soaked dates and the liquid from the dates. Pulse till comes together and forms a ball.
Form into desired shape. I used a 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the mixture. I placed it on a baking sheet lined with unbleached parchment paper and flattened the top a little bit. For the legs, may use pretzel shaped pretzels or stick pretzels.
I cut the curved parts of the pretzel off with a knife or by breaking each stick in half and pushing it into the spider’s body. I added chocolate chips as the eyes, but anything may be used for the eyes. Mine made about 11 spiders. Place it in the refrigerator for about an hour or until it’s firm (I left mine overnight) and serve.
How to Make the Chocolate Spider Webs
The Process:
🕸 Add 1 cup of dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips to a small heat-safe glass container.
🕸Microwave for 30 seconds, remove, mix with spoon, microwave for another 30 seconds, remove and repeat this process 2 more times or until the chocolate has melted.
🕸 Once the chocolate mixture isn’t hot and is safe, transfer the mixture to a piping bag or to a ziptop bag (for more details on how to do that, please refer to the video tutorial.
🕸Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, for easy removal
🕸 To make the webs, pipe a small circle, then pipe rings around the circle
🕸 using a skewer or a toothpick, draw a line from the center of the circle to the end of the circle . Continue this process all around the circle to create a web.
🕸Transfer the baking sheet to the freezer, making sure the baking sheet is laying flat so the webs don’t move around.
🕸Freeze for 4 hours or until the chocolates have firmed up
🕸Gently remove the chocolate web from the parchment paper and enjoy.
🕸note: remove from the freezer when ready to serve so the chocolate doesn’t melt.
